In Search of Quality

It was in 2001 that I moved from India to the United States. When I arrived here, I was surprised to see that while the people here had excellent choices in coffee, their choices in tea were rather appalling. I come from a country steeped in tea culture, so this kind of indifference to quality in tea was shocking to me.

I have been fortunate in that because many of my family members are in the Indian Tea Industry, there has never been shortage of "good" tea in our home. My husband too comes from a tea family. His great grandfather started a family tea garden in Darjeeling, which was then passed down through generations. Since my husband was actually born on this tea garden (Soureni Tea Estate), he likes to say that its not blood but tea that flows through his veins!

Given this kind of rich "tea" heritage, it was only a matter of time that I started to think about capitalizing on our contacts and family connections to bring some of the best teas to the US market. This is how, Jaya Teas came into being.

About the name: Jaya, in Sanskrit, means Victory. I hope that Jaya Teas is a big Victory for the consumer of teas in United States: Victory of superior quality tea over mediocre tea, Victory of superior customer service over mediocre customer service, Victory of good health over the ill effects of coffee, Victory of just plain "good living" over the mass market commoditization of our lives.

We get only one life to live, and long time ago I and my husband decided that we will not compromise on living a good life. We invite you to join us in our quest for "quality" in our lives.

If you appreciate quality, and want some of it in your life, I hope our teas are able to provide some measure of it to you. You will not find fancy packaging, or bright colors to beckon you. But you will be satisfied with the quality of our teas. This is a guarantee.

We have been in business a little over 2 years, and so far, thanks to our customers we have done reasonably well. Our customers love us, our products and our service. What more is there to ask?
