Green Tea improves exercise tolerance
Animal model data from a Japanese study published in American Journal of Physiology indicates that the cathecins contained in the Green Tea Extract (GTE) improve the endurance capacity and muscle oxidation of lipids in mice.
While a study in mice only means that mice could benefit from a cup of tea
, the authors speculate that athletes and active individuals could equally benefit from the cathecins present in the green tea. The authors state that the same benefit could perhaps be seen in a 165 lbs human being, if they were to drink 4 cups of green tea per day.
What was important was that the beneficial effect of cathecins was not seen with a single dose of GTE. Rather, for a demonstrable benefit, GTE had to be consumed regularly for a long time. In addition, the benefit was seen even while taking into account the impact of caffein in the tea.
This study has profound implcations for active individuals who are looking for a healthy beverage that could be included in their lifestyle. Tea is an ideal beverage for an active individual because
As you know, cathecins are present in all forms of tea, including black tea. And we have a nice selection of black teas. So, click here to browse through some of our best teas.
