A Glimpse of Afghani Women

Afghani woman

In United States, all we know about Afghanistan is that it is a distant country, which served as the staging ground for the attack against United States. We know that the war against terrorism is still going on, and our soldiers are still there trying to bring a semblance or order to this once lawless country. But if you think about it, there is a lot more to learn more to Afghanistan the country, the people, the culture. Here is a brief glimpse of the women of Afghanistan from photo journalist Lana Slezic.

New Jersey Poet Gerald Stern Wins Award

Gerald Stern, A New Jersey Poet

This, I came across Poets.org recently! In New Jersey, we are blessed with so many riches! Poets like Gerald Stern add to why I feel so lucky to be living in New Jersey. Here is a quote from the Poets.org website.

Gerald Stern of Lambertville, New Jersey, won the 2005 Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets. Stern, whose most recent book is Everything Is Burning: Poems (W.W. Norton, 2005), received $100,000. The award recognizes “outstanding and proven mastery in the art of poetry.” The judges were Frank Bidart, Lucille Clifton, Toi Derricotte, Sharon Olds, and Kevin Young. The winner is selected by internal nomination. There is no application process.

Congratulations Mr. Stern! Now I need to find a venue where I can go and listen to your readings! Are you reading your new work some where close to Princeton in near future?

Bollywood movies have a strong audience in many many countries, including China, Russia, Middle Eastern countries etc. Recently, US has become a major destination for Bollywood movies with a huge Indian diaspora in US constantly looking for ways to connect back to the home country.

If you haven’t seen a Bollywood movie, you are misssing out on a lot of fun. In New jersey there are a lot of theaters that play Bollywood movies, so finding one close to you won’t be a problem. But if you live else where, this photo documentary is a good place to start. Click Here to see the video of Jonathan explaining how ihe came about to be interested in this topic.
