November Polls Are Nearing - Join the debate

One of the things that makes this country of ours great is that every so oftern the populace wakes up from its slumber and decides who they want as their elected representatives. Folks, November is around the corner, and that time is drawing closer when you have to decide if the bums will stay in or will be thrown out.

In the true spirit of a Chai shop, I am going to ask you to join the debate and tell us your perspective about the way the country is run. At the very least, you can take the poll on the right - which talks about President Bush’s job approval. Or if you really feel like it, write a small essay on how the country is being managed. I promise you if its good, we will publish it on our weblog.

Mind you, no personal attacks - just your point-counter point about the current political situation, and your recommendation on throwing the bums out or keeping them in.

Bat Tea, Any One?

This one just blew me away! I have heard of herbal teas, flavored teas, Oolongs, green and black teas. But never have I heard of any one drinking “Bat Tea”! But this 60 year old lady from Cedar Rapids, Iowa did just that! She had been drinking from a cup all day long and when she went to clean it she realized that there was a small bat in her cup!

The brown bat, about the size of two tea bags, was found a few weeks ago by a 60-year-old Woodbury County woman, said Chuck Cipperley, an environmental director for the Siouxland health office in Sioux City.

Wow! I am glad that the bat didn’t have rabies or the poor woman would have had to take a lot of shots!

I wonder though, how does Bat Tea taste? Read more here.

Colors of Indo-American Festival

Recently, the Indo-American population of New Jersey celebrated the summer festival in Hamilton, New Jersey.

There was beautiful jewellery every where to set a woman’s heart aflutter! You can see the rest of the pictures here.

Participating in these kinds of fairs is very energizing to me as it reminds me of my roots and brings me closer to the culture that I grew up in. It is an opportunity to introduce the Indian culture to the new generation of Indian-Americans who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn the beautiful heritage of their own past. Naturally, it is also an opportunity for our non-Indian friends to learn more about us, and I am happy to say that there were quite a few of them there as well enjoying the foods and sounds of India.
