Jaya Teas Sponsors Avon Walk

Jaya Teas Supports Melissa In Her Walk For Breast Cancer Awareness

Many of us know that despite recent advances in cancer treatments, there is still no cure for breast cancer. The facts are chilling: A woman has a one in eight chance of developing invasive breast cancer during her lifetime. An estimated 40,000 women will die from the disease this year alone. The sad fact is that many women still do not know the need for early detection. It is estimated that about three million women are living with breast cancer and about a third of them yet don't know about it.

Avon Breast Cancer Awareness Walk LogoMelissa Sturno, my neighbor, works for a pharmaceutical company that does research in cancer. Melissa knows the importance of of breast cancer awareness, and so she has decided to walk the marathon distance Walk For Breast Cancer Awareness in NY City on October 2-3 organized by Avon Foundation. Melissa will be accompanied by her brother and her step-mother in this noble cause, with the intention of raising money for breast cancer awareness. Jaya Teas is proud to support Melissa in her efforts to raise breast cancer.

You too can help Melissa in her crusade to raise breast cancer awareness. There are many ways you can support this cause:

  • You can walk the walk yourself, or participate as a volunteer. If you are interested in either of these activities, please go to the Avon Walk Website for more information.
  • You can support Melissa by making a small donation supporting her walk. We encourage you to be generous, but even a small amount is fine.
  • You can also forward this email to your friends and family, and encourage them to make a small donation. And,
  • You can join Jaya Teas in supporting Melissa, by buying a product from our website. Jaya Teas will donate a full 5% of the purchases made on the Jaya Teas website through October 2, 2004 to Avon Walk Foundation.
  • Holiday Travel Tips

Undoubtedly, many of us will be traveling elsewhere this holiday season, and the BIG question that pops in mind is, how will I satisfy my cravings for tea without a tea pot! Well, here are some ideas on how you might be able to do just that.

  • If you are planning on staying at a hotel, most likely your room is equipped with a small coffee maker. When I want to brew tea, I put the leaves in the coffee pot full of hot water, and simply turn the lid just a little bit, to leave a small gap for the tea, but not the leaves! This technique will save you the trouble of having to carry a teapot for brewing tea.
  • At any Target or Walmart, one can buy a small tea infuser or strainer. Keep that handy, and you will never be out of your tea!
  • Finally, if you carry a thermos-flask for hot water or hot tea, remember, to pre-heat the flask. To pre-heat the flask, simply add hot water and set it aside for a few minutes. Throw that water out, and fill with fresh hot water/tea before closing it tightly.
  • Which ever technique you choose, you will be able to enjoy your favorite tea without a major hassle.
