Nothing Like A Good Cup of Tea

Beverages serve a very important role of keeping us hydrated and giving us the "pep" when needed. But tea is much more than that; tea is a social lubricant. Over centuries Tea has evolved as a social tradition around which life revolves. A visit to England or Turkey or India, will quickly establish the central role occupied by Tea in social interaction. Whether it is the famous "afternoon tea" visit to a friend in England, or an unannounced visit in India, tea will immediately enter into the conversation. In India, when you visit a friend, the first thing they offer you is a cup of tea, and it is considered insulting to turn it down. Many a long family discussions, friendly discourses, and even heated arguments have been settled over cups of tea.

The tea shops are not just small restaurants, but rather a common ground for sharing of ideas, arguing your theories and debating the finer points of ones conviction. Sharing personal stories is a commonest form of social interaction lubricated by cups of well brewed tea.

Even in business setting, it is customary for the visitor to be offered a cup of tea. Further more, in India it is not unusual for business men to order only one cup of tea to be split with the visitor - one drinking out of the cup, and the other drinking out of the saucer. This act symbolizes the willingness of the individuals to share from the same cup - a metaphor for willingness to work together towards a common goal.

Our Special Tea: Mirik Leaf, Hand Made Tea

The Mirik Leaf, Hand Made Full Leaf Tea is an interesting tea because it is completely hand made, from start to finish. The leaf is plucked early at dawn, and washed with mountain spring water. The leaves are then allowed to wither in the shade, with the artisans periodically rolling the leaves gently by hand to break the structure and bring out the tea oils. The leaves are then set to dry on bamboo trays in the orange orchards for 6 to 7 days.  This Special Reserve tea with its smooth, buttery, smoky taste has quickly become one of our best sellers. Whoever tastes this tea is left with the feeling of finding a rare gem. Produced exclusively for Jaya Teas, the quantities of Mirik Leaf are very limited, so be sure to place your order today. I guarantee you, you will love this tea.

    Special of The Month

    Makaibari Autumnal

Makaibari - literally translated it means, the land of Maize. But obviously, maize is not what it is know for. Makaibari is known the world over as a premium garden known for fetching some of the best prices in the orthodox tea market. Adjacent to the famous Longview Highlands Estate, Makaibari is located near Kurseong (the land of orchids) subdivision about a couple hours south of Darjeeling. The weather in Kurseong is perfect for tea growing...not too cold as in Darjeeling, nor too hot as in the plains. As a result, the weather creates a microclimate that helps the garden produce some of the most aromatic teas ever produced anywhere!!

The estate has been in the hands of single-owners, the Baneerjees, since 1859, but has modernized to keep up with the modern biodynamic agricultural practices. Most of Makaibari tea is presold (sold before it is produced) to connoisseurs in Europe and Japan. US tea lovers are often unable to find premium quality tea, until now. Now you can have the prized tea delivered to your door step.

    Grade: FTGFOP1 China

This tea is on a special this month, so buy one today for yourself, and another as gift for a dear friend.
